Rare Lionel Set # 709W w/ 700E Scale Hudson 792 793 Rail Chief

Here is the ultimate Lionel Set from the late 1930s. This is Set No. 709W which features the Scale 700E Hudson locomotive and 700W New York Central tender with four streamliner "Rail Chief" Passenger cars -- the No. 792 forward coach, two No. 793 pullman coaches and the No. 794 Observation Car. The engine is the 1937 version, the first year this was issued. Black zinc ally die-cast superstructure, nickel plates, rubber stamped "5344" below the windows and on the headlight. 14-1/8". NEW YORK CENTRAL on the tender.

Hard to give an overall condition grade on the set, so I will break down the items individually. The engine looks great as you can see in the pictures. Nice sharp graphics, complete with no parts missing that I can see. However, the shell is not good. When measuring it appears to have swelled in size. Additionally, there has been a piece broken from the back cab that has been repaired. Runs when put on a test track. The tender looks excellent. I see no problems with this original piece. The Passenger Cars will need some TLC. I've included four replacement bottoms and one replacement shell and roof for repair. I believe you can see from the pictures the condition, and please ask any questions.

Don't miss this set at a great price. Thanks.
