Lionel Set # 787W w/ 763E 2226WX 2956 2954 2955 2957

Here is a wonderful Lionel prewar semi-scale set you won't see very often - Lionel Set No. 787W from 1940-41. This features the black Lionel 763E semi-scale Hudson with its No. 2226WX coal-pile whistle Tender. It pulls (4) semi-scale freights, the No. 2956 B&O Hopper, the No. 2954 PRR Boxcar, the No. 2955 Shell Tank Car, and the No. 2957 Caboose. This set includes all the individual boxes, RCS in OB w/controller, connecting ties in OB, and a No. 167 whistle controller in OB. Additionally, we have the Instructions booklet, instruction sheets and other paper. Also, the set comes with some curved and straight O72 track. Most importantly, it includes the rarely seen No. 787W SET BOX. What a great set, and probably one of my favorites next to the scale 700E sets. Overall, you will be surprised at the wonderful condition of this set - as seen in all 82 pictures below. The engine is beautiful. I can't find anything wrong with it. When tested on a test track the engine ran. Patina looks almost like new. The 2226WX Tender is similarly graded. The engine Box does have one interior flap missing. The 2226WX Box is really nice for this hard to find box. All flaps present, no tape. Interior lining. The freight cars are also in great condition. I see two things to point out (although they are very small in comparison to the overall condition). The Caboose is missing a coupler pin, and I see a small factory touch-up on the side of the Boxcar which is barely visible, but I wanted to bring that to your attention. All castings are excellent with no warping that I see. The boxes all have their interior linings, and most their original wrapping. A couple of the boxes have been reinforced with tape on the flaps. The set box shows wear and has some tears here and there, but it has a strong label and is mostly intact. This is a neat set, and one that you will be proud to own. A true collectible that you can put away for years - surely to increase in value over time. Buy with confidence. Thanks.
