Lionel Std. Gauge Nickel Blue Comet Set w/ 400E, 420 421 422

When you think of Lionel Standard Gauge Trains - this is the set that comes to mind. This is Set No. 396E the "Blue Comet". It consists of the famed 400E Steam Locomotive, with its 400W Tender. The set pulls (3) Lionel standard gauge passenger cars - the No. 420 Pullman "Faye", the No. 421 Pullman "Westphal", and the No. 422 Observation "Tempel". This is the harder-to-find "Nickel" version with the light blue colored 400E with nickel trim and painted blue boiler bands - passenger cars with nickel plates and trim, that match the engine.

WOW! What a great train. This has been played with and loved through-out its history. It is in good shape, as you can see in the many pictures that I've taken (please click the link above to view them all). Condition notes: Overall, the engine looks very nice. The best part - it runs like a champ. Serviced and tested, this one is ready to go. The frame, however, was broken and has been repaired in the front underneath. You can see the metal bracket near the front in the pictures below. Also, where the front boiler is attached to the frame, that loop bracket is broken. Top latch has either been repainted or is replaced. The tender looks very nice, and works fine. Has a couple of small touch-ups. The passenger cars are the correct nickel versions with the nicked journals, and trim. The interiors are intact. Roofs show wear. All the cars have some touch-up on the sides and in the dark blue of the roofs. One hand rail is missing on the 420. All the journals have been painted black. Overall, this set looks great, and would be a fantastic addition to any collection. Selling as pictured, so please ask any questions if something is not apparent. Buyer pays shipping.
