Rare 1937 Lionel 700E 4-6-4 Scale Hudson w/ 700W Tender NO RESERVE (DAKOTApaul)

In my opinion, here is the ultimate Lionel prewar "O" gauge Steam Engine. Mention the New York Central Railroad's "Hudson" locomotive 5344, and most collectors think of this train. Here is the 1937 version of the Lionel No. 700E Locomotive with its 700W Tender. Black zinc ally die-cast superstructure, nickel plates, rubber stamped "5344" below the windows and on the headlight. 14-1/8". NEW YORK CENTRAL on the tender.

I believe that all the pictures below (and please click the link above to view ALL the pictures before bidding) show the condition of this engine and tender well. Overall, this is a great looking set. I do not have the history on this piece so I will have to detail what I see. This is the 1557th 700E that came off the Lionel assembly line in 1937. Serial number 011557. Condition notes: First, the engine runs well in both forward and reverse. The frame has the typical bend to it, as the cow catcher touches the third rail. The castings looks nice and sturdy, and I see no breaks or cracks. My guess is that its has at some point been repainted. It is hard to tell, and the stamping look original, but that is my call (you bee the judge from all the pictures). Missing the little linkage piece on the front right that is in front of the steam chest. I believe that the the Tender has also been professionally repainted and stamped. It has a warp to the shell as pictured. Front drawbar, and bottom pick-up are replacements. The Tender did not whistle when put on the track.  Overall, a great pair of rare Lionel trains.
