Scarce Lionel Early Postwar # 463W 1945 Freight Set 224 2457 ++SET BOXWhat a great find. Imagine being the first kid on your block to get this Lionel Train Set right after the company reopens for business after WWII. This is the rare No. 463W "O" Gauge Freight Set that Lionel made in 1945, the very first post-war set. This includes the No. 224 Diecast Steam Engine, the No. 2466W Whistle Tender, the No. 2452 Pennsylvania Gondola, the No. 2458 Pennsylvania Double Door Automobile Box Car, the No. 2755 Sunoco Tank Car, and the No. 2457 Pennsylvania Illuminated Caboose. Also, it includes all the individual boxes, a No. 167 Whistle Controller, an RCS box (with track), some straight and curved O Gauge track, and a reproduction 1945 Booklet called "Lionel Trains in Action". This also has the rare SET BOX. In 1945 the engine had the blackened handrails, square cab floor and long drawbar. The rare Tender also had the blackened handrails in the rear. All freights had the Flying Shoe Couplers with the black fiber board. Overall, this set is in excellent condition - as viewed in the many pictures below. And, if you click the link above you can view over 50 pictures of this wonderful set. The engine overall is in real nice condition. It runs well in forward and reverse. The tender is also very nice for this early piece. No breaks or cracks to the shell, just a little dirty. Whistle worked when tested. The freights are all in excellent condition as the many pictures detail. Some small scratches and wear, but overall these are nice, clean freight cars. Couplers are in a complete unbroken state. The individual engine and car boxes are correct for the set with the crossed out prewar labels. Many are are missing some flaps and some have been reinforced with tape. If you check out the photos you will see each box condition. Most have the correct inserts. The SET BOX is missing two top flaps, and the tape up one corner. A good label for this set.
