WOW! Boxed Lionel Uncataloged Prewar Freight Set # 5238E w/ 259E 261T 809+

Here is a once in a lifetime boxed set of Lionel prewar "O" Gauge trains. Yes, what you see in the pictures below is correct - the set looks almost brand new!  Must have been used once, put away and never touched. This is uncataloged Freight Set No. 5238E from 1935. The Set includes a No. 259E Steam Locomotive with a No. 261T Tender.  It pulls four freights - a No. 804 Sunoco Tank Car, a No. 809 orange Dump Car, a No. 831 dark green Lumber Car with wooden load, and a red No. 807 Caboose. It comes with all the Individual Boxes, a Box of Connecting Ties, a boxed No. 88 Controller, a couple inspection slips, an Instruction Booklet, an RCS track set, and a rare Set Box.

Where do you start on this set. First I have never seen this set before. It is an uncataloged set from around 1935 (that is the date on the Instruction booklet). Don't know what department store. What outstanding condition. These trains look like they are almost new out of the box. The Engine and Tender and freight cars are just beautiful. Nice and shinny paint, clean all over. If these were run, it might have been once or twice. Of course with any set that is over 80 year old it has a couple minor issues but these are mostly with some of the boxes. I see that the engine has some age cracks in one of the driver wheels. The Engine box has one end that has been reinforced with tape on the inside. The RCS box is missing flaps on one end. Interestingly, the Tank Car box has a paper label attached on each end over the number. The 831 box has some skinning on one end from a torn coupler flap (around three unattached coupler flaps are included). The rare Set Box is complete and in very nice overall condition. a couple small tears into the flap creases, but overall a nice box with clean label. A really beautiful set that would be a highlight to most collections. Buy with confidence. Thanks.
