High Grade Lionel 1946 No. 726 Berkshire 2-8-4 w/ 2426W + BOXES

This is the top of the line in Lionel Berkshires. This is the rare 1946 Lionel No. 726 steam engine, and its No. 2426W Tender. Lionel placed the most detail and best running gear on this engine. Instead of cotter pins as used in the following years, Lionel used stanchions to hold the handrails on the engine. Instead of having the motor drive the rear axle and using the main rod to drive the rest of the axles, Lionel placed the motor horizontally and used a drive shaft to drive the front and rear axles. Plus of course no e-unit slot through the top of the boiler.

Here is one of the better 1946 Berkshires that I've seen in awhile. The best part of this is a really nice Tender box with all flaps no repairs. The engine and tender are in excellent plus condition - as seen in the pictures below (and please click the link above to view ALL the pictures before bidding). Great overall condition, showing little wear. A couple of paint scrapes on the Engine and some wear to the tender as pictured. Engine ran in forward and reverse. Smoke bulb works. The tender whistle works fine. The Engine Box is brick-like with insert. Tender box is correct for 1946. Has all its flaps, some writing on one side. Original Insert. Even has its original Instruction Sheet - which is a hard one to find. Dated '46. A great set - don't miss. Thanks.
