Nice! Lehmann MAN-DA-RIN Tin German Wind-Up Clockwork Toy

Here is a toy that should not be missed by any serious collector. This is the Lehmann MAN-DA-RIN German Tin Clockwork Toy. This is one of the many Lehmann toys with an oriental subject. Made around 1905 and called MANDARIN EPL 565, this windup toy features two coolies walking along with natural leg motion carrying a man seated in a highly decorated box. The man in the box is holding the pigtail of the front coolie, presumably confirming his superior social status. The toy is in very good condition - as you can see in the pictures. Wonderful lithography for its age. The windup works good and drives the wheels on the bottom. I was told by a Lehmann toy expert that the coolies are replacements. I am not so sure, as they look excellent and are really nicely matched to the piece. So please use your own discretion from the pictures. Thanks, and feel free to ask questions.
