Rare Lionel Prewar Standard Gauge Coal Train 318, (3) 516, 517Here is a rare set of Lionel Standard Gauge Trains cataloged in 1929 only. This is set No. 340E the "Coal Train". Features the black Lionel 318 Electric Locomotive pulling three No. 516 red operating Coal Hoppers with coal loads and lines of data, and the hard to find No. 517 red Caboose with black roof. This is a great looking set that would sure to be the focal point of many collections. The set features a black No. 318 - (3) original Coal Cars, and an original tender. I'm not sure about the originallity of the Engine, but it shows some paint runs, which is how this was originally painted. The roof is very shinny, so either cleaned or repainted. The cow catchers have definately been repainted, and the wheels replaced. I took a lot of close-up pictures of the set, so you could see all. When tested the I got the Engine to light up and run but the wheels held up in spots. Not sure the issue, but will need some adjustment. One Coal Hopper is in excellent condition. The other two show some wear as pictured. The lettering is gold but shows darker in the photos. Some oxidation on the couplers and wheels. The Caboose has some spidering in the black on the roof, but overall in a nice one. Again, I took lots of pictures - and please feel free to ask any questions.
