Rare 1937 Lionel 700E 4-6-4 Scale Hudson w/ 700W Tender

In my opinion, here is the ultimate Lionel prewar "O" gauge Steam Engine. Mention the New York Central Railroad's "Hudson" locomotive 5344, and most collectors think of this train. Here is the 1937 version of the Lionel No. 700E Locomotive with its 700W Tender. Black zinc ally die-cast superstructure, nickel plates, rubber stamped "5344" below the windows and on the headlight. 14-1/8". NEW YORK CENTRAL on the tender.

I believe that all the pictures below show the condition of this engine well. Overall, a very nice set, however, it does the typical issues that most of the '37 Hudsons have after surviving all these years. This is the 788th 700E that came off the Lionel assembly line in 1937- Serial number 010788. Condition notes: First, the engine runs when bench tested in both forward and reverse. Frame has a warp with the cow catcher just a 1/16" above the third rail. It does clear the third rail to run, but very close. The castings on the engine are poor, there is a crack along the top seam of the cab on the right side. Additionally, the left back corner of the cab roof has a repair. A metal piece was put in along the underside and the broken corner was attached to that. Looks pretty nice for a repair. Fairly nice graphics on the sides. Original drawbar pin. Original boiler front. The Tender is an original 700W tender. Rubber stamped lettering on the sides. It has some warpage to the body, and it is missing its pick-up roller.  A great set of rare Lionel trains to own. Don't miss this one, and please ask any questions. Enjoy all the pictures and thanks for looking.
