1935 Lionel Std. Gauge Darker Blue Comet Set w/ 400E, 420 421 422When you think of Lionel Standard Gauge Trains - this is the set that comes to mind. This is Set No. 396E the "Blue Comet". It consists of the famed 400E Steam Locomotive, with its 400T Tender. The set pulls (3) Lionel standard gauge passenger cars - the No. 420 Pullman "Faye", the No. 421 Pullman "Westphal", and the No. 422 Observation "Tempel". This is a fairly hard-to-find set from 1935. It is a transitional set with the darker blue paint color and the Passenger Cars with the dark blue vestibules. Condition notes: This set is how I found it - and I believe that all the pictures below will give you a fantastic idea of its condition. First of all it is an original set - not put together. The engine has its original frame and I believe its original boiler front. Shows a little expansion as you can see the small separation at the bottom of the boiler front. Original drivers that have their centers overpainted. It ran in forward and reverse when tested, but need a good lube and cleaning. The tender is in very good condition with some wear on the frame. The passenger cars are all in similar condition, and I believe could grade higher with some TLC. They look complete with clean interiors. Some wear to the top of the chairs.
