Lionel Prewar Set No. 261W, 226E 2226W, 2816 3811 2817

Here is a fantastic Set of Lionel late prewar trains - Set No. 261W from 1940. It features the No. 226E 2-6-4 steam locomotive, with its 2226W Whistle Tender. It includes (3) freight cars with the simulated knuckle box couplers and blackened journals - the hard No. 2816 black Hopper - the No. 3811 Lumber car with load - and the No. 2817 tuscan roofed Caboose. Also the set comes with a No. 167 Whistle controller, a box with a UTC lockon and some connecting ties, and an RCS track piece. We also have the rare Operating Instruction Booklet from 1940, and Inspection tag. Most importantly, the Individual Boxes and the rare Set Box. All that is pictured.

This set is in fantastic condition for its age. The engine and tender are almost like new, with no cosmetic problems that I see, just a little dirty. The engine lights up and runs well. Whistle works on the tender. Both would grade high. The freights are all original and as pictured. The Hopper and the Log Car are real nice. The Caboose has a ding on one corner, that has been touched-up. It looks like most all of the boxes have been opened on one end, with the past owner tearing off the flaps of that end. The set box is in very good condition, with some old tape on the outside of one corner. Label reads well. The RCS has dry and brittle wiring. I took a lot of pictures for you to see all (click here). And, please ask questions. One of my favorite sets. Buy with confidence. Thanks. Small reserve based on condition and rarity.
